Violent Crime in China: Wonderfully Rare
Violent crime is wonderfully rare in China, Even with 4 times the population density, the incidents are rare amongst urban Chinese themselves and certainly amongst foreigners who live here.
Last month a couple of foreigners got into an argument with someone in a public park up in Jilin. The local guy ended up pulling a knife to stab them. I've seen plenty of daily local arguments in China over the years like you'd find in most any country. It's rare for them to end up in violence.
Just recently a Japanese family was attacked by a Chinese in Suzhou. Immediately there is speculation because of the old lingering conflict between Japan and China. There's no denying some Chinese harbor this resentment towards Japan because of the horrible atrocities they committed in this country and have yet to apologize for.
That's no small thing in the minds of Chinese, but it's in the distant past and on a daily basis relations are normal and friendly as they should be. There is no palpable tension, protests or other activism disturbing the society like you find widespread and even encouraged in neoliberal societies bent on perverted free speech menes like the United States which encourages such things.
Living here in northeast China, the region of the country closest to Japan, I'm keenly aware of this history with substantial Japanese and South Korean populations in cities like here in Shenyang where we live and Dalian on the coast.
As always any incident in China will unfortunately be blown out of proportion by disruptive anti China propagandists. Whipping up hate, racism and xenophobia is built into the DNA of today's American society while daily life here in China is exceptionally safe, stable and normal with such behavior deeply frowned upon. Don't let the twitter trolls mislead you.
Two isolated unrelated incidents in cities of 10 million people far away from one another are just random events that unfortunately occur amongst humans, not a far fetched reflection of how incredibly safe, low violence and low crime our society is here in China. The Chinese people themselves are incredibly proud of their society and are appalled when they hear of such things happening.
In Jilin last month, the suspect was quickly apprehended. In Suzhou, the suspect was immediately detained accompanied by extra efforts toward foreigners living here.
It's important for readers to understand my point of view as a foreigner living here in China for 25 years with my Chinese family along with countless other expat families living here long-term who marvel at how safe and stable the society is here.
I've decided to further add a point relevant to the matter. The onus of whipping up hate leading to more violence is on the United States, for whipping up its malevolent hateful, pathetic, anti China hate campaign over the last several years. Countless Americans including myself are ashamed of such propaganda and actions by the U.S. government in which they also drag other countries like the Philippines and Japan into.
I don't hesitate to remind you that for over four decades China has risen to global superpower in peace, not killing or attacking or bombing anyone along the way unlike the United States who has been doing so endlessly ever since WWII.
Accusations by the United States govt that China is genociding minorities, threatening Taiwan, oppressing religious freedom here and oppressing people in Hong Kong are just more hateful propaganda garbage, making the entire world less safe for every one of us.
